What’s in a name? (Part III)

It’s that time again. Let’s play the marketing game!!! Has your film marketed well, does your title appeal to me, and most importantly will I pay to watch your film?

Again I will throw my disclaimers out. These are mini capsules on what I know about films that are coming out this year. I am not looking up any information for these films, but merely going by what I already know or is obvious from the title, and if I know nothing, I take a wild guess based on the title. The purpose of this is to show the power of marketing in its many facets. All the links are looked up after I say what I gots to say about the film in question. (I only disclaim to save my own ass from being accused of ignorance about films by people, and to say the word ass (I am really just a little kid))

Ok Folks are you ready to play…

Dus Ka Dum, er, I mean paanchvi pass, sorry I mean the marketing game?

Hello

Hello, who are you? I dont know you, good bye to you, for now.

Maharathi

(See Hello)

Mission Istanbul I have heard a lot about this one. Apoorva Lakhia’s following up to Shootout at Lokhandwala. I liked that film and all the bullets that flew around for a while. Zayed Khan and Vivek Oberoi are in this and they are performing a mission of some sort in Istanbul. Ohhhh, Ahhh I infer well from the title. I think Apoorva can open a tab for me and his films now.

Money Hain To Honey Hain

I think this title works negatively for the film. I expect a cheap comedy about golddiggers. Upen Patel, Celina, and Govinda are here. Ganesh “Masterji” Acharya is directing this one. I heard about this film a long while back, not only because of the papers, but he told my “uncle” about it. I won’t buy a ticket for this, but if I get invited to the premiere I’ll go for the shrills and thrills of the environment (I acquired a taste for the environment walking the red carpet at the Indiana Jones premiere in Mumbai!).

C Kkompany

Tusshar Kapoor is going to be shooting up people an trying to make us laugh. If you make a lot of reviews laugh hard, I’ll go laugh in theaters, but if you make them throw up from headaches, I will keep my money warm by sitting on it.

Singh is Kinng

Akshay Kumar. He is almost golden. Now just silver in my books after Tashan, which I still havent seen. But this film seems to be shaping up… Snoopp Dog, Anees Bazmee, lots of buzz and Katrina Kaif sounds like a good formula for me to run and buy a ticket. Funny, I cannot remember if I have heard what this film is actually about but I still want to watch it.

Bachna Ae Haseeno

Ranbir Kapoor is starring in this Yash Raj flick. It has Bipasha in it. I dont understand the title, but that is probably just me and my poor hindi. After the strings of poor quality works coming from this camp, I will wait for reviews to make any discoing on wither to help fund the Chopras splatter more stuff on celluloid.

God Tussi Great Ho

Already talked about this one before, probably delayed pushing back release.

Mumbai Meri Jaan

Unfortunately the only things I know about this film is that there was a small logo on PFC linking to its blog. I have not read it so I do not know what this film is about, nor who is in it. The title makes me think a life in a metro type of film, which I did like. The buzz needs to pick up or else I might end up giving this one a miss.

1920

No idea. Something happens to someone in 1920. Tell me more, don’t be a bore, uhh and maybe throw in some gore, set in a war, and I’ll come see your lore! That is some 1st class rhyming.

Hijack

Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol. This a prime example of a title that intrigues me. An airplane gets hijacked, easy to interpolate. I really do want to see this film as I can’t recall seeing a Bollywood flick about a hijacking. I saw a promo and liked that as well, I hope this has realistic action and not filminess, which I vaguely think I saw a hint of in the promo. As long as the promos show good stuff closer to the release I will buy the ticket.

Rock On!

Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai if I recall correctly. Probably about a rock band that struggles or something with some sort of love angle. I think this one will be very very dependent on good reviews to succeed, and needless to say, I will need positive news before I can be convinced to watch this.

Roshan

I dunno. Never heard of it.

Chal Chala Chal

Wrote about it, probably delayed as well.

Do Aur Do Panch

Ok this sounds like a funny little con movie. Was there an old time film with the same title. I remember seeing the title before, but I have only been a Bollywood film watcher for 3 years so I have an excuse to not know for sure. I think the promos are what will largely effect my decision on this one.

Ek – The Power of One

Has Mimoh in it. What are you selling me? A kid whose first movie lasted one week in theaters before it went quickly to DVD? No sell. This guy does not have the power of one, throw in some other stars to sell some tickets.

Heroes

I know I have heard about this film, and having big stars in it. Not sure who but I want to say Salman. The cast will probably draw me, but a couple of good tv spots cant help cement my butt to a nice seat in the back of the theater.

My head is now hurting from all this thinking. We are done with the marketing game for today. I will play take a break and play Monopoly for some days… be back with more later.
