What all was wrong with the 52nd Filmfare Awards?
Kangana Ranaut getting the Face of the Year takes the cake for me.
You know guys, we are a star-starved society, we crave for icons…and Hrithik Roshan with his gymn-toned body and chiselled looks is the perfect candidate for the title…at least for the unhappy millions for whom movies are a way of getting away from daily drudgery. So Hrithik did not get the award (Best Actor) for his performance (or should I say non-performance) in Dhoom 2 (such a bad film, it was funny to see it getting nominated). The man got the award precisely because we are slaves of the star-system in Bollywood and will do everything to keep things the way they are. So year after year, the Roshans, the Bachchans and the Kapoors will keep getting undeserved awards.
Though Fanaa was a crappy film, Kajol’s performance was above-average, if not one of her best. Deserved the award? I don’t know…
Has anyone ever considered the fact that the awards only reinforce stereotypes about actors? How many average-looking actors have won awards in the past many years? It’s all about looks in Bollywood. Or so it seems. A Deepak Dobriyal would never be nominated for the Best Supporting Actor category, would he? Such a pity.
Abhishek Bachchan for KANK. Well, that movie was so bad that it being on the nominations list is the saddest day for cinema and art. It does not deserve to be called a film. And so, anyone getting an ‘award’ for that bakwaas film has got to be a case of ‘aur koi nahin mila to isko de diya’. Then again it speaks volumes for the value we attach to art and commerce in cinema. Karan Johar is the prince of moolah and therefore, his movie however pathetic will end up getting nominations if not awards.
And those who missed out on the Ash-wiping-her-tears act when would be mom-in-law Jaya Bachchan received some special award (yawn!), you missed the farce of the year. The fakeness of the whole act makes me cringe. It was disgustingly phony, so hypocritical that I was guffawing my guts out. I don’t know about you guys but that woman (Aish) is the epitome of pretence.

Roshni, agree. But thank god this year they gave something to Deepak Dobriyal. N felt that they somehow could not hand over the popular awards to KANK. Only bcz RDB and LRMB were so good. so so good. filmfare guys gt defated finally bcz of these good films,i think. Otherwise they would have happily given everything to KANK n shahrukh.
Rosini:
Its never looks in awards. Dilip Kumar is not greek god in looks and he maintained maximum number of best actor award for years and Dev Anand being most handsome male actor of all time was quite active in those years. Hardly anyone will call Shaban Azami a beauty queen and she won film fare awards of best actress for many years. Amitabh Bachchan too is not said as handsome and he won the best actor award several times. SRK is not handsome and yet he got many best actor awards.
If Hritik looks good on screen then it can not be a negative point to drag him down because you dont like him.:(
Why Arshad Warsi was not better than Deepak Dobriyal’s (small role in Omkara) in Sehar, LRM?
Deepak gets certainly benefit here. He is lucky this time. He was not best but he got. and same rules are apply to all actors. Its luck of those who got and less luck for those who did not get. and why to give importance to these awards? There are many awards now.
Pankaj Kapoor and Sushant Singh both were better in Sehar than Deepak Dobriyal in Omkara but they did not get even nomination, last year. So its a chance.
Take it that way.
Hi Roshni, when did Filmfare ever get it right, for things to go wrong? We have seen how that event has turned into a farce, from some years back. What is there to be surprised about? That is only meant to boost individual egoes and nothing else.
RK regarding ur point of Dilip Kumar and AB, that was during the time when awards were given on looks and not on acting. In this case none is criticizing Hrithik because he looks good, but because Dhoom certainly was not meant for it. I felt it was right decision, when Hrithik got it Koi Mil Gaya, for it was a really good one.
Whatever beating you do around the bush, the fact is plain and simple, the Filmfare awards are the biggest farce, and no point even discussing them.
I adore Amir Khan who does not go to this bullshit award functions! apart from some lets say 3 or maximum 4 awards given to the deserving person all others are so full of shit and just given to appleaze certain big people who so call rule bollywood!
Best actor by far for last year was Amir Khan in RDB and Best actress miles ahead of any competetion was Kangana Raut —- But who made them – Best Director ( the most prestigious award – in any award function ) certainly Rakesh Mehra
Ne ways hope some day this idiots will ban Ne thing comming out of Yash Raj or that silly Johar camp in award functions – that day would be a liberation day for awards in bollywood!
ratnakar dude u r absolutely right on mite! filmfare awards are so full of shit! and so are fucking oscars
Max for that liberation to occur we will have to do a commando style operation like Guns of Navaronne, ready for it.
The targets are TOI group, YashRaj movies, Dharma Productions. Ready for it.
Regarding Oscars, while they do goof up, they at least are not as bad as FF.
I mean how often do u have Scorcese,Coppola, Spielberg and Lucas on stage together. That made my day.
Yeah of course i hated it when Spielberg was denied for Savign Private Ryan.
I bet AK would not be even nominated for black friday next year! Neighther would Naseer be for Parazania…ofcourse i am sure the fucking idiots of TOI must have already decided to give Mest actor to Abhishek for Guru (not taking out that he did a good job there) and KK would not be even getting nominated …Dammit i even hate thinking about this shit …bro ratnakar i so much wish that somehow roshans, yash fuker raj and that gay coffee drinker production house would elope from the industry right now and i am sure bollywood would smell fresh as this idiots are since ages farting with same fucking smell
U want my prediction for 2007
Best Actor-Abhishek Bachan(Guru)
Best Actresss-Aishwarya Rai(Guru)-Well i dont think after marriage she would be acting in more movies, and even if she did, i dont think any producer would want to take a risk with her.
Best Supporting Actor-Amitabh Bachan(Eklavya)
As for Anurag Kashyap, Black Friday, Parzania, Naseer, KK Menon eh what is that?
On a side note, im happy Honeymoon Travels is doing well. Saale Nikhil Advani aur Vinod Chopra ko pura vaat lag gayi.
Roshni ji,
How was SRK ?
@ Roshni, I do agree with you ( as does everyone here) that Filmfare is farce and the awards are * yawn * blah blah * yawn * yeah you got it right? But Though a movie could be bakwaas but the performance cannot be ignored and AB Jr. wasn’t as bad as been made out in KANK..in fact he was the only saving grace in the movie…off course its another debate that having him nominated for that role is a joke considering many other wonderful performances being criminally ignored…but the argument of your that if the movie is bakwaas no one associated with it should be nominated…i kinda disagree
@ Ratnakar…”Best Actresss-Aishwarya Rai(Guru)-Well i dont think after marriage she would be acting in more movies, and even if she did, i don’t think any producer would want to take a risk with her”
LOL!! For the betterment of human society we should give Aish a Lifetime Achievement asap and shut her acting-case…
>>It was disgustingly phony, so hypocritical that I was guffawing my guts out. I don
RK: give me one justification for Hrithik Roshan getting the Best Actor award for Dhoom 2. Did he even get to act in that movie? all he did was flex his muscles and enact wierd fight scenes with that aweful Aishwarya. does that deserve an award? even if it is as farcical as the FilmFarce Awards…
also i completely agree with you that arshad warsi should have been nominated for Seher, if not anything else it was one of the better films made in 2006. in fact sushant singh also should have got a nomination…then again is the point anout stereotypes…since warsi has now been typecast as a comic actor, he would never be recognized for his serious roles…same way in which actors like naseer and pankaj kapoor (and many others) have been bracketed in a certain genre so they will never be appreciated for the variety of roles they do…was reading an interview with pawan malhotra the other day…the man has so much talent but all he gets to do is that two-bit role in Pardes (Black Friday is another matter altogether…it brought together some of the finest but unrecognized actors)…
Ratnakar: i hope your predictions are wrong…from the bottom of my heart…really…we all want to give awards to those who deserve but it never works out that way…it is an unfair game, my friend…what we can do? perhaps express more on PFC…and let everyone know that Bachchans DO NOT rule…
Chalam: well, SRK tends to go overboard. though i did not mind him in Don
Sangeeta: ever heard of glycerine being used ti induce tears? seriously one needs to ask Aish…where does she get all those crocodile tears from…
thanks to YOUTUBE u can watch everything online these days…
check this brilliant SRK’s take on KRISSH
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE5nZ8RdAH8
[For other segments just search for 'Film Fare Awards 2007']
take it or leave it… but with due respect, no one in the industry (amongst the actors) has a better sense of humor than SRK… or can host these events/shows better…
lage raho SRK !~

Roshni:
I dont have to give any justification on behalf of Hritik that he got best actor award for Dhoom 2. Because he is not my relative and I am not relative to any of the judges who selected him:).
and in same way I have no justification for any other actor got award. If its all about personal liking then its a relative matter, few may like them and few may not and in the end all actors will look like they grabbed someone else’s award. Not a single actor’s award can be justified in 100% manner.
Re: second part of your question, that did Hritik get to act in the movie. Answer is yes. Film is not reality. Its false medium a kind of matrix, no matter you make a film on Bible or Ramayana or attack on parliament, whatever you would do will be a false thing and given that false boudaries around you, an actor has to perform the character and Hritik was true to the character given to him and he was best in it, and no other contemporary actor could do that. His conviction is obvious in the film. Film’s story can be non-apealing. over all film can be a bogus product which we have seen many times in western films but Hritik was an actor or excellence in that role. If you could not see his acting anywhere in the film than its based more on personal disliking towards him and less on objective outlook. You may bring any film and any actor in discussion and s/he and his acting and role can be described as bogus at the end of the discussion. as nothing is flawless or nothing is perfect. This is the mind game that we treat certain films as realistic and some as escapist cinema. Cinema itself is medium of escapism. Whats not real, is shown as real to make us believe that.
not really RK…black friday does not take us on a trip for us to escape reality, it brings us face to face with it
parzania does not do that either.
there are umpteen number of ilms that have done that in the past. Drohkaal was one, great film, not given any attention.
so films are not ‘only’an escapist ritual, i don’t think so.they hold a mirror to society.
i do not disagree that certain liberties are taken when people make films, but Dhoom (1&2) were washouts.
as far as hrithik deserving the award is concerned, he did not and i maintain it.
but so didn’t many who got the award.
so the bottomline is that these awards and a farce, just there to massage some egos.
Roshni:
First award (as film’s POV will take too much time).
Why you shd give weighatge to an award function where you find no justice is done? Or perhaps you are satisfied that Ok they gave these and these awards rightly but these and these are wrong.
Some 700 hunderd people gather at a place and its kind of group of similar thinking people. If they enjoy their time and distribute award in the manner they like, how it affects your life as cinema lover? Is Filmfare or stardust or any award is the ultimate award in world?
Even if its organised in Chopras lawn and people who did not like these awards termed these awards as Chopra Johar Bachchan award. Treat this as their family affair. Why to make fuss about it. Why they should give award to the films and actors which you like? Same way they can write blogs and make noise that you should appreciate what they have decided. They have something and they did it. They did not ask anyone to contribute money to organise the function. It can be termed as private affair of few rich people. Let it remain like this.
If you like Prazania or rest of the films which you mentioned then gather similar thinking people and bestow award to your kinda films. That will surely satisfy you. Even if your award has no big name today and no sponsor but question should be of your personal satisfaction. Why you wish that Chopras and Johars should give awards to films which you like. When you say so do you think you are a perfect person and who does justice all the time and your approach is 100% belong to true path. If not and you feel so many times you are also biased and behave that way then matter is finished. Let them do what they are doing and do what you like. where paths are crosssed? the people you dont like in film industry are not ultimate God or God fathers that their every act should bother everybody. World is beyond them also and there are different films than theirs.
RK boss…i am not here to either fight or argue with you.
but please consider my point of view as valid
in a democracy everyone has the right to express, right? i am expressing my views..what is wrong with that?
you might not agree, perfectly alright…but we must have a healthy discussion…lack of debate corrupts..
all i am saying is…if by expressing ourselves we get like-minded people together…is that a folly?
we are thinking individuals, right? so we think and we write…i have also written..and you commented because you got provoked…
my writing has had some effect on you…
the FilmFarce award provoked me so i wrote…all awards suck…
thats about it!
Roshni: had no impression that I was stopping you to put forward your POV. if thats the case. sorry lady!:(
well RK..don’t want u to be sorry…
your comments have not stopped me from anything:)>-:)>-:)>-
apologies not reading the entire post + other comments as am in a hurry(wld definately read it 2morrow)…
just wanted to say that Anurag’s wish actually came true with these awards happening at Yash Raj studios < :-p
