What’s in a name? (Part II)

The saying “Don’t Judge a Book by its cover” is great saying and it would be nice if everybody followed it.

Hence the need for good marketing. It is important. A title plus the package, it all matters. I should not judge a book by its cover. But I do. I guarantee I am not alone. Actually I think I may a part of the majority. This is why the “cover” is important. Film making is a passion, it is also a business. If XYZ(your average film goers) decide this Friday that they want to go watch a film, and there are 5 releases, I believe they will pick the film the go see by the “cover.”

Again the reason I write these mini previews so all can see what my “cover” for each particular film is. The better the cover, the higher the chances I will see the film. Sometimes I see bad films that have diamond covers. Other times there are films with burnt covers that I have loved. But I think 90% of my “covers” (or preconcieved notions) are correct in gauging what films I watch.

This list is pulled from http://indiafm.com/trade/releasedates/index.html

Aashayein
This is a film that does have some intrigue around it. Being a White Feathers Film, this film seems almost out of sorts. I think it has something to do with somebody dying and emotions. I will wait for the reviews to see this one. I have a feeling if I dont buy a ticket I will still watch the DVD of this one.

De Taali
Ritesh Deshmukh, right? I have heard a song from this and read a few articles about over the past few months. Funny thing is I don’t remember anything about it nor have a clue what it will be about. Usually when I have heard of a film so far in advance I have a slight idea what it will be about. Again, I will wait for reports on this one before i watch it.

Good Luck
Havent heard of it. Good luck to you.

Haal-E-Dil
I saw a promo for this during U Me Aur Hum. I believe it will be a love story with some new faces. There is simply not enough here for me to go watch this. Why? Well, Bollywood has many love stories. What will I go watch, new faces or star faces? I will stick with the stars, unless the TV and internet tell me otherwise.

Hulla
I think I have heard of this. Title sounds familiar but pulls up nothing in my brain. I have to see more about his film if the producers want me to see it, and unfortunatly for them that info has to find me, I wont go looking for it.

Mukhbiir
No Clue. No butt in seat.

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
Rani, Yash Raj, Kunal Kohli, and Mary Poppins. Well use to be Yash Raj puts a film on and my ass was theirs for 3 hours. After the last few things they have put out, I will let the public decide what I do.

Rafoo Chakkar - Fun on The Run
Never heard of it, but the title makes me think kids film. Actually the title somehow makes me NOT want to watch this film.

Chal Chal Chal
Ok Ok Ok, , , I I I never never never heard heard heard of of of this this film film film… picture chali toh main dekhunga, but I have serious doubts.

Allah Ke Banday
I watched Khuda Ke liye. I have no idea about this film, but assuming something religious and serious. If Khuda Ke Liye was on this list and was going to release in Decemeber, I would have said no to it. I probably wont watch it since I have no clue who is in it and it deals with religion, which bores me. But hey I went to watch Khuda Ke liye and liked it. Lesson to be learned, make a good film and I will watch it regardless.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Imran Khan, Aamir Khan’s nephew debuts in this film. I assume there may be a love angle somewhere in here. I think I may watch this film on the first few days, pending non-Tashaan-like reviews. Why? I associate Aamir Khan with quality. He doesnt need a big star in his film to sell it. He puts everything into his films and has reaped its benefits.

Love Story 2050
Priyanka and Harman. The promos looked cool, especially the gateway of india in the future. I like the idea of Bollywood opening up to new things, but I find the “future” and “Bollywood” to be a wierd mix, mainly because I havent seen it before. Also I am apprehensive about it being a love story. If the title was “Mumbai 2050″ and then they threw in a love story I would have been calmer. The thing is, Love Story being in the title conveys to me that, this is a love story, well duh. This seems like a sci-fi type flick and I want to expect to see just that, but the title changes my expectations, it mixes them all up in my head. Why? Well I think love stories have been done before in Bollywood. So I dont want to watch another love story, but am willing to watch a cool futuristic look of mumbai. Since these two expectations mix in my head, I dont go first day first show, but instead wait for the verdict. The only difference with this from the other films I said I would wait for reviews is I really want this film to have a good review, instead of being indifferent to the review. (Being born and raised in the USA, you would think my English grammer and sentence formation would be better.)

Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors
Heard about this a while ago. Probably a kids movie that has hits of the Harry potter series. I never read/watched harry potter, so this one will need some wizardry to make me watch it.

Mehbooba
I remember hearing something about this, but i dont remember what. I need to wait to see some promos. The title suggests a “classic” love story vs the ordinary “new age” love story. (I dont think most of you understand what I am trying to say, because, I myself am not sure, but I still want to say it.)

Chamku
Know nothing about it, so I got nothing to say except the producers better do something so I hear about this.

Contract
I am not sure if I have heard about it. But the title makes me think a Ram Gopal Varma film. This is a complete guess, could be a business type film, who knows? But, here the title leaves me with a little bit of intrigue, so I may be intereseted in this film if it shapes up.

God Tussi Great Ho
Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh plays god, and something such as Salman having a change of heart after meeting Bachchan. I’ve known about this film for a while, so that is a plus point for them. I still need good reviews to make me buy a ticket, but I will end up giving it a watch either way.

Kismat Konnection
Shahid Kapur and Vidya Balan. I believe this is some sort of love story. This title though draws me. It is simple and I feel I will see a good movie. My gut tells me I will go to the theaters for this.

To keep these reviews to a reader friendly length, I will divide this into 4 or 5 parts. Again I feel if you are trying to hit the masses with your film, these articles should hopefully be of help. Part III to be coming..

    Neil and Sameer,

Fortunately or Unfortunately Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors has nothing to do with Harry Potter but is a complete rip off of Home Alone.
