Where is Shilpa Shetty?
In the Celebrity Big Brother’s house in UK!!!
Big Brother is a very popular reality television programme all over the world. It was initiated in September of 1999 in Netherlands, and it has subsequently been adapted to virtually every other part of the world(approx 70 countries). Recent country to join this bandwagon is India, where its aired as ‘Big Boss’.
Coming back to Madam S ‘housemate’ status in CBB..
As one of the participant’s rightly said “nothing better to do in the month of January to beat the cold, so I’m here”(read “I want to re-appear in public’s memory for which I get paid”)
Heard abt Ms.Shetty participating in UK’s CBB in India and didn’t really know how to react. On arrival here, the speculations of her being one of the housemates, did make me a little curious. So it was THE time and the sixth participant’s name was announced “Bollywood queen Shilpa Shetty” and her pre-recorded clips started rolling. That she looks gorgeous goes without saying, but fail to understand her way of talking and her weak comments like “I don’t give 100%, but give 200% in everything”, “If I’m a maidservant, I want to be the best maidservant”(for christ’s sake, who talks this way anywhere, leave a new country and new setup). Her lack of research about the programme was blatantly announced by her(which was not required really).
I like Shilpa as she has come a long way(from her Baazigar days) and her proformance and the way she looked in Phir Milege, Dus are commendable. Her participation in CBB will definitely bring her in focus of media in India & UK.. which might lead to some well-deserving role offers. (Am I reading Shilpa’s mind?!)
Here is wishing she doesn’t feel out of place(as the first day) in the coming days and passes more intelligent comments than “I want to make every Indian proud of my being here”.
A little more careful about what you say and how you say, and you’ll be fine Shilpa! Good Luck!!

I actually don’t watch Big Brother, but ofcourse, that didnt stop me from staying awake ALL NIGHT to catch a glimpse of Shilpa rani!
Only, she went to bed at around 10pm and wasnt up until 8.30.
So my ‘jaagrata’ went in vain!!
Anyways, she looks lovely and is handling the whole thing really well.
I cant help but wish her well… i guess im a ‘pukka’ Indian in that respect… but dont worry.. i wont call myself ‘Bharat’ and wave the indian flag around, mujhe ganga ki saugandh!!
But yeah, i look at her and think ‘aaawwwwww’!! Really want it to go well for her.

Oh this seems to all teh rage here in the UK at the moment. I’m not a fan of Big Brother but I get to hear the latest house news on teh radio. She seems to have settled okay so far.
I did find it amusing that she thinks she is representing Indian culture. This show is a stepping stone for old (not so famous) celebs to get back into the lime light. So good luck Shilpa!

i’m not a big fan of Big Brother, i think i watched it like twice(that to while doing some work), but i did watch Big Boss the other day.. and my god i got supper annoyed by Rakhi…all the fights, crying and not being able to understand half of the stuff said…
Big Boss is a show where C grade actors do the obvious, act like C grade actors.

There seems to be quite a negative reaction to Shilpa by British folk, and some of the housemates who think she’s fake even though they’re the ones who chat to her, then chat ‘about’ her!
Yet Shilpa is meant to be fake!!
I personally think they dont understand Indian culture.. or dont even want to.
Shilpa is doing fine.. alot better than imagined actually.
Well, im happy for her.
Infact, I shouldn’t really say this but what the heck, I have even been to church on a few occasions to light a candle for her!
My sister’s not impressed as she feels i should be lighting candles for my family, and not Miss Shetty!!

Regarding teh fake comments, it’s only come from a few and it’s pretty obvious Danielle is jealous and insecure of Shilpa and her looks.
She is slightly dim though, she was educating people on religion when she had no clue what she was saying herself! She’s being the conservative indian chick taht we expected and isn’t she whinging she isnt allowed to put make up on or something?
But i was glad to see chav queen (Jackie) out of the house, her interview was hillarious!
shilpa’s easily got the best body in bollywood today.. i’d say tied to antara mali at first.. and yes, as zahur mentioned.. can be very talented given the right director.. case in point, phir milenge.. i’d say her and sushmita are probably two good examples of beautiful, talented and charming actresses that just never got their due.
coming to reality shows, the only ones i’ve ever actually followed were “fear factor” and “the mole” so never got into the “real world” and “big brother” types.. but “big boss” seemes to be a household name now with my mom and sis and other cousins that watch it on a regular basis.. i just don’t seem to understand the fascination with watching a bunch of people clawing away at each other like a bunch of second-graders..

Heheh Striker…Yeah Sonali does come to mind..but there was a time where she put on some weight to look good on screen opposite chriranjeevi in Indra…i was stunned with the amount of fat she had put on right around the love handles…oops now i know why they call it “love-handle”

Baarish, Shilpa is still in and there was some good news, what with that ‘bhaarat ki dushman’ Jackie leaving, but only to leave 3 ‘chaukidaars’ to make Shilpa’s life hell!!
So we now have Jack (he says he hates shilpa), Jade (Bhaarat ki dushman ki beti!!) and now a new addition Danielle (who is hardly a celebrity!).
But fikr not, our ‘jis desh mein ganga behti hain’ ki ladki Shilpa, has everything under control.

She is still holding it together, although about 2am this morning she was very distressed, no thanks to the bully Jade, who tries to make Shilpa feel like crap..and it bloody worked yesterday!
As much as Id like Shilpa to win (or atleast be one of the last ones out) Id like to see her get out of the house for her own peace of mind!

Like I said I think she is doing okay in the house however I did think she came across patronising that day. yeah i am also wondering how people in india are reacting to this… i read some article where her mother was just saying Shilpa is very strong and its just a game or something like that…
but today i watched some videos on YouTube and it seems Shilpa tries to solve a problem with a very softly.. but then again i only got to watch some parts not the entire show…

I think its high time Shilpa puts her foot down against the crass set of people in the house. Ofcourse she is very dignified and the way she has carried on is commendable, but anything that lets down a person’s self respect should be pulled down too in my earnest opinion.
Lot of my Asian friends and even english friends who watch CBB are appalled by what is going on and the there is quite a big row in UK on this matter. There are petitions being sent to Channel 4, if anyone interested.. here is the link

As far as I know, there are the Ofcom and channel4 complaints which are on the increase and also our very own bbc asian network who are asking us to text in and see if we asians feel BB should be pulled off the screens.
Ofcourse I voted ‘yes’ as that will probably be the only way to end this disgusting name calling, gross, disturbing ‘entertainment show’!!
It was horrible when Jad emade those remarks about Shilpa today.

Things in the big brother house are looking pretty miserable now.
What I find amusing is people in India have taken to the streets protesting and burning things over Shilpa’s treatment, now firstly this show isn’t aired in India so these protesters really don’t have much coverage to go by - most are probaby jumping on the bandwagaon in rage over what they read and see in the press & media!
I’m not saying that these contestants are actually racist but the way they there feelings towards Shilpa is coming across especially verbally is most certainly racist.
I guess Jade and co must thing the clash is about status and class rather then race, which to some extent is true.
Oh and Shilpa is a good actress, she knows just hoe how to rub people the wrong way and also works the tears and flirty giggle just at the right time

About the protest…there’s no shortage of people getting ready to take to the streets and burn an effigy or two…in india especially…
this supposedly happened in patna, where a group of people must have done it…and one of our newspapers must have carried it…saying there you go…we have protests in india now…
that must have been either transmitted via newswires to the corresponding news organizations here or someone must have seen it on google…and that has now snowballed into ‘protests all over india…etc…etc..effigies being burnt..’…
end of the day…it’s hot news right now all over the world…and any which newspaper, etc. are trying to get their small pie of it … while the news remains hot…
I mean the best way to check this out … is that it’s the same bloody photo being printed all over the internet…

By the way have you guys watched Bigg Boss - the indian equivalent…what rakhi sawant was treated to was I think thousand times worse then what Shilpa went through probably…each and every other contestant literally lined up and gave her a verbal lashing of her life…one after the other…Cannot believe the girl did not shed one tear…But that of course will not be picked up by the Indian media…because it will not make that much of a headline grabbing story…
I don’t think a queit word with Big Brother has occured here. I think the girls must have realised that the questions Big Brother was asking had something to do with what’s being portrayed on the outside. Danielle is just completely two faced and stirs! Whilst with Jade she is something else and with others or when alone completley different!
VC, I’ve seen clips of big boss here and there - Rakhi holds her ground well considering no one in the house likes her
I think too BB has its strategy for increasing TRPs, but don’t think they would’ve imagined such a furore globally. If it is doing good to them in anyway, its not doing any good to the nation or its people. Hence so much of debates/discussions.
But again 3-4 people cannot represent a whole country. And if those people are ‘culturally ignorant’, this is no way to portray it.. doesn’t give them a license to be outright rude, abusive and insulting to anyone, be it indian, american, chinese, any nationality for that matter.
Base line is its a GAME and noone should forget that. All you know at the end of it all, Shilpa and Jade have become best of friends, BB has become the most watched/discussed show and WE…… we’re talking about something else!!!
Yeah I know, I know, we’re all getting a bit fed up with this, but c’mon, only 6 more days left, then Bhaarat Ki Beti will return back home and it’ll all be over!!
But have to say, the atmosphere is so much calmer and playful (although Dirk wont agree!) and it’s great to see Shilpa happy!!
They were given a task today, in which they had to make BB laugh, so they all did their thing and whilst some were good and some were….hmm..oh well!!… our Shilpa rani was bloody fantastic!
Her acting skills were put to the test here and oh my, she was hilarious!
She had disguised herself to a point of almost being unrecognizable, as an annoying aunt who insists everyone must eat this banana!!
