Two movies come to my mind immediately:
1. The Thin Red Line – Probably one of the most under-rated war movies of all time.
2. Born on the 4th of July – Nothing to say. The name says it all.
Land and Freedom – on the spanish civil war.
The Last Samurai
The Great Dictator – if it can be counted as one
Some more of mine
Gettysburg-Epic recreation of the Battle
Guns of Navaronne-Pulp fiction at its best
Operation Daybreak-Very underrated movie about assasination of Heinrich Himmler
Longest Day- To me the best recreation of the Normandy landings.
Von Ryan’s Express-Fantastic act by Frank Sinatra as an allied POW, who undertakes a daring escape act.
Tora, Tora, Tora- The Best movie on Pearl Harbor IMO. Just brilliant
Flags of Our Fathers-Clint Eastwood’s excellent depiction of the tale behind that famous photo of Iwo Jima
Where Eagles Dare- Well this was the movie, that actually got me hooked on to war movies, and though its a cheesy masala flick,it still remains my eternal favorite.
Stalingrad-Fabulous depiction of Battle of Stalingrad from German-Russian view point
The Eagle Has Landed-One of the rare war movies, where you actually want the Nazis to win.
Night of the Generals-Murder mystery set in Nazi occupied Warsaw.
