Yeh kya jagah hai dostoon……not talking about PFC !!

Article link to IndiaFM

Guys, please read the link…..I dont know how to react. Feel like puking…..( Oz, have got your warning mail. But so sorry, cant control myself) how can someone write so shamelessly about their own film.

Some Deepak Sehgal and his kids loved it!!! Wish I was also Deepak Sehgal or one of his kids. Would not have to write evrything here….would have messaged Mr Gadhavi. Can someone please tell Sanjay Gadhavi that “crores” dont make “cult” movies. I know, we have dissected Dhoom2 enough on PFC but after reading this column, could not control myself.

Also Mr Gadhvi, if you think your characters clicked big time and your “idea” made it a hit….then too bad for Yashraj guys. They are not making any more movies with you even after your Dhoom2 made so many many crores for them. Ever wondered why ?? Because then can make crores with any Dhoom or Doom. Because its simply about marketing and brand Yashraj. No one bothered about any character because it was just starry shit.

This sequel lacks on so many things including script ..dialogs(Ash has got one of the worst dialogs of the recent times

  2. Sangeeta on January 4th, 2007 6:13 am

I think Sanjay needs to be invited here to dicuss cult movies :-t

    Thanks for the link.

  3. VC on January 4th, 2007 6:47 am

Read this today morning. It sure is funny. The first thing that came to my mind is that oz will have Sirjee and Betelal crawling out of the woodworks for this one…:)

hey .. good one sangeeta …

thanks for the ‘insightful interview’ mr sanjay gadhvi… now i know what cult films are ….
where realism is damned …. just like a fast mumbai local train which ‘refuses to slow down at the small stations’

    fantastic analogy !!!!

We don’t mind a masala film but it must convince us … ala Lage raho …which may have had cinematic licenses and ‘willing suspension of disbelief’ .. but at the same time .. convinces us !!!

I read this and wanted to laugh! Cult film? Methinks something is lost in translation - cult films often become so because they are so bad they find a following, or because of their limited appeal, or because they were unrecognized in the theaters but found a life on video. A cult classic does not become so because people want to dress like John and Abishek.

I didn’t see either of the Dhoom films because I don’t like action films. But, somehow, I think my beloved “Killer Clowns from Outer Space” or “Shakes the Clown” are still better than either of the Dhoom films…

  6. t! on January 4th, 2007 7:14 am

I pressed Submit too soon, what I meant to add was that if he thinks Dhoom is in the same league as the films of John Waters or Ed Wood, then why spend so much money?

  7. oz on January 4th, 2007 7:19 am

    - That article is taken from another source because at the end IndiaFM prints “The above article appeared in a leading city daily last Sunday”… but fail to mention the newspaper in which the article first appeared…

  8. Honhaar Goonda on January 4th, 2007 7:28 am

this article made me laugh more:

“Rani Mukherjee was the central character of KANK and Baabul but she was not appreciated because astrologically she was not going through a good phase of life.”

  9. Sangeeta on January 4th, 2007 7:38 am

“because astrologically she was not going through a good phase of life.

  10. Ranjit on January 4th, 2007 7:58 am

@Sangeeta: Other than Konkona and to an extent Tabu, which female actor is doing anything substantial? What you observed of Rani hold true for everybody.

  11. phoenixnu on January 4th, 2007 8:00 am

    Oz, its from Mid-day…sunday edition…here’s the link…the “culty” filmmaker…

    http://www.mid-day.com/smd/play/2006/December/149328.htm

  12. randramble on January 4th, 2007 8:11 am

Guess Yash Raj are beginning their hype for D:3 and the crap to follow. Maybe, Aditya Chopra told Sanjay Gadhvi that for the next movie he needs to pull in the non-commerical crowd too and that’s why Sanjay wrote this article…

  13. phoenixnu on January 4th, 2007 8:21 am

Randramble, guess what the rumour is this time…the great great mr aditya chopra is gonna direct it with none other than but King khan!!! Guys, can someone open a “I HATE YRF” club and tell those marketing geniuses that we do exist!!

  14. Chaitanya Tamhane on January 4th, 2007 8:22 am

Guys do you think Mid Day has got the spelling wrong? Is it ‘cult film’ for sure? Or is the ‘l’ meant to be some other alphabet?:d;):)>- Maafi, but could not control on this one.

  15. Sangeeta on January 4th, 2007 8:38 am

Chaitanya :o, you should wash your mouth out with soap while i go wash my head out after realising what word you were referring to.

Ranjeet - I agree with you, many of the mainstream actresses are in the same boat but I gave Rani’s example as that paticular article was in ref to her. Besides I do think Rani is an actress who can act unlike many others.

  16. Chaitanya Tamhane on January 4th, 2007 9:25 am

Sangeeta: What to do , Sanjay Gadhvi started it…;)

  17. phoenixnu on January 4th, 2007 9:29 am

Chaitanyabeta, sangeeta ki baat suno. Warna OZ Daddy bahut gussa jayenge. Jao muh dhokar aao:-?;)

  18. shitij on January 4th, 2007 10:35 am

…next thing Gadhvi would say is Dhoom is going to Oscars.

  19. push on January 4th, 2007 11:15 am

sanjay gadhivi wont be directing D3.he may come out with his own without YAS STAMP.

  20. george thomas on January 4th, 2007 4:34 pm

Perhaps Mr. Gadhvi is being prescient … after all a film like Disco Dancer that was a hit in its time today enjoys a cult following unlike some other box office hits of the past that still enjoy a generally acceptable nostalgic appeal.

  21. Vasanbala on January 4th, 2007 8:19 pm

the whole Dhoom sham was just to squeeze Uday Chopra in a film somehow. They could not make a Nel n Nikki - 2 or Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai - 2. Sanjay Gadvi was just a Pawn in he game.

It’s like launching a hero but just that unlike Papa Roshan who invested on big ships and locations….here Papa Chopra invested on actors for whom people would come and watch this Duski….sorry Dhoom……So Dhoom-2 was all about buying Uday Dearest his 15 more seconds of fame/unwarrented screen space….seriously he was the most excited and enthu of the lot….and I am sure the First Film Family must be discusing in awe and admiration the creative genius of Uday Chopra having that Baywatchish run with Bipasha and kids.[something tells me it must have been this guys got it! moment]….warning : 15 more seconds to Uday Chopra….with even bigger stars….Dhoom -3.

JUST WONDERING - still have not heard of Dhoom scripts going to the Oscar Library…..why I wonder….why….it’s a Yash Raj film…..it should..

  22. phoenixnu on January 5th, 2007 3:15 am

Push, Sanjay CANT direct D3. Because his 3 films contract with YRF is over. Now, he is kicked out of YRF like Kunal Kohli. YRF can do without any of these “culty” filmmakers.

  23. DK on January 7th, 2007 10:27 am

On another note how do these movies become so popular and raise an obscene amount of Mollah :-?
It is good that YRF is not going to work with Mr Gadhvi again. By giving chances to new directors maybe they will unearth some gem…some day!!!!
